Forest School
At Cottingham, we have our own Forest School within our school grounds. Regular visits to the Forest School give children the opportunity to be immersed in nature, developing their understanding of the world around them, boosting their confidence and developing life-long skills. Children benefit from improved physical development as well as building on resilience and self-regulation skills through outdoor learning and teamwork.
Our Forest School ethos:
· Outdoor learning that takes place all year round.
· Small groups, in a natural setting, supporting the development of a relationship between the child and the natural world.
· Run by a qualified Forest School Leader.
· Long sessions of up to 2 hours.
· Offers children the opportunity to take supported risks appropriate to the environment and themselves.
· Uses a child-centred approach that is responsive to the needs and interests of the children.
