Design Technology (DT)

Foundation Stage:  In the Foundation Stage, DT is covered by the areas of “Physical Development”, “Expressive Arts and Design” and “Understanding of the World”. Children will explore how things work. Children will explore different materials freely, in order to develop their ideas about how to use them and what to make. They will develop their own ideas and then decide which materials to use to express them.

KS1 and KS2 ( Years 1-6):  Using Kapow DT lesson in KS1 and KS2 involve children learning technical knowledge based on mechanical systems, structures, textiles and electrical systems. They develop their skills of evaluation about both product and design. Children design their own products and explore making them by trialling their own ideas and making mock-ups. They look at whether the final products they make fit their initial success criteria and evaluate their own work by looking at strengths, weaknesses and how it could be improved.
